- My favorite project that I created was the sgraffito. It was my favorite project because it was challenging as well as personalized. I had to learn how to create the mold and scratch the paint and figure out how to get the logo of the Chicago Cubs on the plate. Also, I was able to chose what I wanted my project to be. I have been a huge Cubs fan my whole life and especially since the won the world series this year, it means a lot that I was able to make something to remember that. I had a lot of fun making this project and I believe it came it to be a great piece!
- One thing that I struggled with this semester was creating the mold for the sgraffito. I had to restart a few times, and every time I restarted I just became more and more frustrated. I was about to give up but then I realized that I just had to take my time and be cautious. I carefully made the slab and carefully made precised cuts to make sure I would have the right shape of the mold. I was able to overcome this challenge by taking my time and putting focus towards this project and my sgraffito came out to be a success!
- When I walked in to ceramics I did not know anything. Yes, I know what clay was, but thats about it. Over the course of this class I learned many different techniques, such as scratch and attach, delicate formation, rolling a slab, how to make a coil and much more. I also learned, that clay remembers, and trust me it does. You have to be very careful with clay because by the end, it will remember what you do with it. I had a great experience in this class, and wish I started taking ceramics sooner in my high school career.
